Impossible Dovetail Boiled

The project begins with some scrap 2×2 lumber.

It’s flattened on the planer.

Then cut to final size.

First routing pass is with a straight 1/4-inch spiral bit.

The seconds pass is with a dovetail bit.

A marking gauge is set to the exact depth of the dovetail.

A mark is transferred to the mating part.

A hole is drilled into the center.

Clever work with the mitre saw shapes the dovetails.

Excess at the corners is trimmed with the router table. Thanks to I Build It for these excellent push sticks 🙂

They’re ready to be boiled!

And now they’re being boiled.

Once the wood softens, it can be shaped accordingly.

Now they fit together like magic!

Boiled again to restore the wood fibers.

All done!
